PLASTIC POTS/PLUG TRAYS/FLATS RECYCLING PROGRAM Who can participate? What types of plastics are accepted? How should the plastic be prepared? Try to knock the majority of the dirt out of the pots and trays. Usually, tapping the back of the piece will accomplish this. A thin layer of dirt is permissible but excessive dirt could result in rejection of the load. Trays and pots should be nested tightly and stacked on the pallet. Generally, it is best to create 4-foot stacks and then lay each stack, on its side, on the pallet. The pallet should be stacked 7-8 feet high and then banded or stretch-wrapped to avoid movement during transport. The key is to place as much as possible on each pallet. The greenhouse film should be folded or rolled and placed on a pallet and, then, secured, with film or banding. Greenhouse film will also be accepted in bales or stuffed in cartons. In no case, can the film be stuffed into the truck. All plastic must be easy to load and unload. What is the plastic worth? On loads under 20,000 lbs, most plastics are worth about $.02 per pound. Loads over 20,000 can earn an additional $.02 per pound. Locations near to our hub can earn another $.01-$.02 per pound. The weight is determined after grinding. We will ballpark the value, for you, prior to pickup. Checks are sent within 30 days of the pickup. Besides earning money for the plastic, you also save the hauling and dumping charges that run into the hundreds of dollars. And you are helping the environment. How do I arrange a pickup? Recycle Those Plastic Pesticide Containers – Get One Core Credit The NJ Department of Agriculture announces its 2006 schedule for a free program torecycle empty plastic pesticide containers at the Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex. Non-refillable, high-density polyethylene # 2 (HDPE #2) containers used by agricultural, professional and commercial pesticide applicators will be accepted at the collection sites. In addition, HDPE #2 plastic pales, bulb crates, and similar items will be accepted. Pesticide containers must be no larger than 55 gallons and triple rinsed. The MSDS booklet and the lid must be removed. The metal handles must be removed from the plastic pales. The program is open to anyone who holds a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection pesticide license including state, county and municipal government agencies. Participants must follow the processing guide or the material will be rejected. You do not need a pesticide license to participate in the program if non-pesticide containers are recycled. The NJ Department of Environmental Protection has authorized Karen Kritz, Program Manager, NJ Department of Agriculture, to issue one core credit to pesticide license holders who bring in properly rinsed pesticide containers. Kritz will be on-site to collect the containers and issue the pesticide credits. To receive credit, participants must bring their pesticide license to the collection site and must follow the processing steps. Credits will not be issued for recycling items other than pesticide containers. Contact Karen Kritz at (609) 984-2506 or karen.kritz@ag.state.nj.us with questions about this recycling program or other recycling questions. 2006 Pesticide Container Collection Program Location: Time: Dates:
